Emil Viklický's operatic output represents the fullest expression of his long-standing dialogue between jazz and the Central European classical tradition. His operas do not simply set jazz rhythms against an orchestral backdrop — they reimagine the possibilities of both genres from within.
Working with Czech and Slovak librettists, he has drawn on folk tales, literary texts, and historical subjects, always finding in them a musical language that is simultaneously rooted and forward-looking.
His operas have been performed at leading venues in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and Germany, and have been broadcast on Czech Radio and Television.
